Elly and the Thunderstorm

On a windy and cold night there was a 12-year-old girl who couldn’t sleep because her parents were about to go to work and she would be alone. The little girl’s name was Elly. Her mum was called Magda and her dad was called Max. Her mum came upstairs and gave her a kiss and she said “Goodnight Elly, now lie down and everything will be all right.” 

Then her mum went downstairs and went out the door. Her parents went into the car and drove away as fast as they could.

Lightning was coming from the sky and wind and hail came into the house. Suddenly the clouds became black and it started raining heavily.

Elly got scared and she started crying. Elly got out of bed and went to her wardrobe and she got a blanket and a torch and she went downstairs in the living room. Elly was feeling very scared and she started to feel unwell.

Her parents were working in the hospital and were wondering about Elly if she was in the tornado or still in bed.

Magda said “We need to call someone to look after Elly, don’t we?”

“No, we don’t Magda, Elly is 12 years old she can look after herself”, said Max 

“I know but what about if she hasn’t any food to eat, she might be very sick and might need to go to the hospital.” 

“But the rain how can she go there?”

“She will die” they both said exactly the same time. 

Elly was feeling dizzy, she wanted to call her parents but there was no electricity. Then she heard a knock on the door. At first she didn’t want to answer but then after a few minutes she saw that the storm was gone.

So, she opened the door and there was her neighbour Victoria and her mum Kate. Victoria said “Hello your parents called us to come and look after you while they are at work.”

Elly said “Welcome inside Victoria and Kate.”

“I want to tell you that I have fever and I’m not feeling very well.” 

“Where is your kitchen?” Kate asked Elly 

“What do you want to do in the kitchen?”

“We want to make you some tea,”

“Oh, thank you so much the kitchen is on the right,”

“Thank you, Elly,”

“Mum I will take Elly’s temperature,” said Victoria 

“The tea is ready,” Kate said after few minutes.

“Perfect and her temperature is 39C degrees.”

Elly drank the tea and told them to stay with her. It was still raining but not that heavy as it was before 5 hours ago.

Her parents came home and saw that Victoria and Kate where still here “Thank you for looking after Elly you can go home now,” said Magda. 

“No problem,” Victoria said

“No, mum, I want them to be here and go home tomorrow,” said Elly 

“But Elly where would they sleep?” Elly’s mum asked.

“Victoria can sleep with me and Kate can sleep with you,” Elly replied.

“Yes, what a good idea Elly.”

So they all slept together.
